About Heidelberg
This year's Snap!Con will happen at the University of Education - Building Keplerstraße in Heidelberg.
Heidelberg is one of Germany's most famous tourist destinations. In case you can find a bit of time during the conference and/or want to stay longer or arrive earlier, here's a couple of suggestions on what to visit:
A 15 minutes walk from the conference venue is the market square of Neuenheim with nice cafés and bars. Just 5 minutes farther you can get to the river Neckar where people meet on summer evenings to relax and enjoy a drink or play ball.
The Philosophers' Walk is a 2km long walk up the "Heiligenberg". As a reward for the quite steep walk uphill, you get an amazing view of the city and castle. If you're up for a small hike, there's a 90-120 minute walk to the monastery in Ziegelhausen with a local brewery and a nice beer garden.
The old bridge is the 9th bridge at this position. The first one was built by the Romans, the current version, despite it's name, was only finished in 1788.
Heidelberg's number one sight is the castle located on the "Königsstuhl". Built from the 12th to 17th century, it was destroyed several times. During its heyday, it was important for European politics and nobility.
Botanical Garden at the University:
Located right next to the Science and medicine buildings of the University of Heidelberg in Neuenheimer Feld, the Botanical Garden was established in 1593 and is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It is renowned for its significant scientific research conducted by Heidelberg botanists, as well as for its internationally acclaimed conservation collections.
Heidelberg University in the Old Town with Studentenkarzer and Marstall
One of Heidelberg’s most unique attractions is the “Studentenkarzer” – the old student prison of the University of Heidelberg. Located just behind the Old University building in the city’s historic center, it was in use from the 1780s until 1914 and housed students for minor offenses like disturbing the peace. Rather than a punishment, time in the Karzer became a badge of honor, with inmates leaving behind graffiti and paintings still visible today.
